1. LED lighting.

LED lighting uses far less energy to produce the same volume of light as the traditional Fluorescent and Halogen globes and lasts much longer, reducing maintenance. Government incentives are available to some commercial premises to upgrade lighting free of charge to businesses.

2. Install skylights.

Installing skylights where possible throughout the premises will significantly reduce the need to even turn on your lighting during the day.

3. PV Solar System.

Get a quality PV Solar System installed if your roof space allows it. Depending on your usage, this will be the number one way to eliminate your power bill. In a commercial situation, the space is generally occupied during daylight hours. This allows the solar energy you produce to be diverted directly to your usage, rather than feeding into the grid and buying it back later.

4. Sensor Lighting Systems.

In large corporate offices and even smaller ones, the lighting may not be necessary for every room for extended periods, but generally, it’s easier to just leave lights on than having to keep flicking the switch on and off. Enter the smart sensor systems that see you coming and turn lights on when you enter an area and then turn them off as you leave. This saves a lot of power.

5. heating and cooling.

Your heating and cooling can be high energy consumption appliances. A great way to save energy is to set up thermostatically controlled zone systems that can have individual programmable parameters. You may not need all of the offices set to cool when some of the staff are away.

6. Ensure your building is properly insulated.

Properly insulated walls and roof spaces will significantly decrease the energy required to air condition your spaces. Double glazing and insulated windows will also save energy.

7. Turn off Plant and Equipment

Turn off Plant and Equipment when not in operation and overnight. Not only will you save energy on the machinery on standby, but will allow the chance to depressurise in the case of pumps and air compressors.

8. Regular routine maintenance of equipment.

Regular cleaning and maintenance of your plant and equipment will not only ensure maximum lifespan saving the cost of breakdowns but will also ensure the equipment is running at its potential without over-draw and power usage.

9. Appliance selection.

Do your research on appliances you are installing in your workplace. Something as simple as the selection of the type and size of your hot water service depending on the business type can make a significant difference in your overall long-term energy usage.

10. Shop Energy Retailers.

There are many options available to you and your business. If you have both gas and electricity there will be a chance to make a saving if you combine the two and there are some providers that will negotiate the fees dependent on your total usage. There are also some providers that will favour you if you have a PV solar panel system providing energy to your business. So take advantage of these savings.
